April Yip

Assistant Programme Officer, East and Southeast Asia

Languages Spoken: Cantonese, English, Mandarin and basic Japanese

April is the Assistant Programme Officer for East and Southeast Asia, based in EMpower’s Hong Kong office. She supports grants management, programme monitoring, and regional capacity strengthening initiatives. She is the regional lead for young people's safeguarding.

Prior to joining EMpower, April was a Programme Mentor at Teach Unlimited Foundation in Hong Kong. Stationed full time in a partner school serving young people from resource poor settings, she focused on the development of learning motivation, learning attitude, and self-esteem of the young people. Witnessing these students’ progress in their self-development journey was her greatest reward.

In addition to youth development, April is passionate about environmental conservation. Her experience includes conducting ecological surveys for World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and community resource research for the Kadoorie Institute and the University of Hong Kong, as well as environmental educational activities for the public at the Hong Kong Wetland Park and for the children in Kyiv, Ukraine as an intern at AIESEC (global youth-led organisation).

April obtained a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Applied Biology Environmental Science from Hong Kong Baptist University.
