EMpower’s 9th Annual Champions of Youth Dinner was held on March 1st at the Yale Club in New York City, bringing together 180 dedicated EMpower supporters for an incredible evening in support of at-risk youth. The evening’s fundraising surpassed all previous Annual Dinners in the US, raising over $547,000!

We were proud to honor long-time grantee partner IkamvaYouth as our 2018 Champion of Youth. C-Founder and Director Joy Olivier joined to accept the award, and shared the exponential impact of Ikamva’s work providing quality education to thousands of youth in South Africa every year. This transformation was exemplified in the strength and poise of Ikamva graduate and current university student Matsie Quintres Sefala, who traveled to New York for the first time to share her story, receiving a standing ovation from the inspired crowd.

The event also featured keynote speaker Ian Bremmer, President and Founder of Eurasia Group and a prolific thought leader and author, who gave his perspective on “Managing Risk in an Unstable World.”

It was a very special evening full of energy and support for EMpower’s work. Many thanks to all our guests and to our Dinner Committee, Board and Underwriters for their generous support and unwavering commitment to EMpower’s continued growth and success.
