In January 2017 one of EMpower’s South African grantee partners, Ikamva Youth, announced results for their class of 2016. The 285 learners enrolled in their after school tutoring programs in 10 branches have achieved an impressive 85% pass rate!

Ikamva Youth are especially proud of their Ivory Park branch which achieved a perfect 100% pass rate, and the branches in KZN (Chesterville and Umlazi) which collectively hauled 41 subject distinctions!

Pictured is Vuyolwethu Zumani, a participant at the Joza branch in the Eastern Cape. Ikamva Youth describes how he achieved a Bachelor pass with 5 distinctions, making him one of the top achieving learners in the district. Vuyolwethu has been accepted at university to study towards a BSc, majoring in Maths and Statistics.

Ikamva Youth look forward to reporting on the class of 2016's placements later in the year.

Ikamva Youth provides young people with free after school tutoring, career guidance, mentoring, computer literacy training and extra curricular engagement. EMpower has been supporting Ikamva Youth since 2008 and with our current grant, Ikamva will scale its work through community collaboration and government partnerships, increase organizational capacity to support and enable effective scale, and strengthen its M&E system and capabilities.

Well done Ikamva Youth!
