On March 20th, EMpower held a Next GEN Drinks event in London, kindly hosted by Gemcorp Capital LLP. The fun evening bought together new and existing supporters of EMpower, to learn more about grantmaking and specifically EMpower’s livelihoods work in Ghana. Theodoros Chronopoulos, EMpower Senior Program Officer for Africa, discussed how our Ghanaian grantee partners are supporting young people to gain decent employment and focused on non-traditional income generation for women such as taxi driving and mobile phone repair (pictured above at NORSAAC). EMpower Board Co-chair Parvoleta Shtereva, shared an update on her recent visit to South African grantee partner Ikamva Youth.

Next GEN is EMpower’s global initiative that brings together our next generation of young philanthropists. Next GEN’s membership consists of young professionals (under age 40) who support EMpower’s mission to create positive change in the lives of at-risk youth in emerging market countries. They bring fresh ideas, networks and energy as ambassadors for EMpower globally! Thank you to Gemcorp for hosting this interesting event, and to the UK Next GEN Council members who helped organize the evening: Bibi Khonsari, Anya Kopyleva, Daniel Obaseki and Tina Raja.
