On April 19th, 12 Board and Underwriters attended the first spring grants meeting in London, the third of five grants meetings for EMpower this year. As a result of the increased grantmaking budget for this fiscal year, we were able to provide more 2-year grants to high performing grantees, in addition to presenting 2 new organizations as potential grantee partners (1 in Russia and 1 in Turkey). 7 grants totaling $300,000 were approved, with 10 additional grants of $294,000 up for internal approval.

Some important questions were raised, prompting thoughtful discussion on project alignment with EMpower’s country strategies, as well as long-term monitoring of youth progress. It was great to see our Board and Underwriters’ enthusiasm to ensuring our grantee partners are best supported, with many encouraging inter-organization sharing of learning’s, particularly in the area of monitoring and evaluation of programs.

Approved grants were awarded to the following grantee partners: Akshara (India), Jan Sahas (India), Youth Lives Foundation (Turkey), Sulukule Volunteers Association (Turkey), Upsala Circus (Russian Federation), Galaxy Fund (Russian Federation) and Fundación Cruzada Patagonica (Argentina).

Thank you to all EMpower donors for making this support possible!
