Deborah Diedericks

As EMpower's Senior Programme Officer for South Africa, Deborah Diedericks plays a key role in supporting a portfolio that focuses on developing and strengthening the mental health of young people. Deborah is a seasoned professional with 15+ years of experience in the development and mental health sector in South Africa. She brings more than a decade’s experience as an Executive Director of a non-profit, including strong skills in fundraising and thoughtful strategic planning, often in a challenging environment. Additionally, she brings with her a wealth of experience in programme development and implementation specifically pertaining to girls and young women in the mental health sector. 

Deborah is deeply interested in a learning and listening approach to grant making – learning alongside grantees and their participants about what is most needed and what is the best form of support. She is also passionate about and committed to inclusive and participatory leadership. 

She holds a Master’s degree in Adult Education and Development (MPhil) from the University of Cape Town.
