As EMpower's Senior Programme Officer, South Africa & Global Mental Health Lead, Deborah Diederick's role is crucial in supporting a portfolio that focuses on developing and strengthening young people's mental health. Deborah is a seasoned professional with 15+ years of experience in the development and mental health sector in South Africa. She brings over a decade’s experience as an Executive Director of a non-profit, including strong skills in fundraising and thoughtful strategic planning, often in a challenging environment. Additionally, she brings a wealth of experience in programme development and implementation, specifically for girls and young women in the mental health sector. 

Deborah is deeply interested in a learning and listening approach to grant-making—learning about what is most needed and the best support for grantees and their participants. She is also passionate about and committed to inclusive and participatory leadership. 

She holds a Master’s in Adult Education and Development (MPhil) from the University of Cape Town.
