Odi is EMpower's Programme Consultant for Ghana and Nigeria. He is responsible for our programmatic work and managing grantee partnerships in these regions.
Odi is a human rights activist focused on advancing the sexual and reproductive health and rights of sexual and gender minority persons. He has relevant skills and expertise in capacity strengthening for community-based organisations, feminist groups, and activists; research; advocacy; and increasing knowledge and awareness of sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, and sex characteristics issues. He has over ten years of experience working with the LGBTIQ+ movement in West Africa.
Prior to working with EMpower, Odi worked as the Key Populations and Programs Specialist at the Society for Family Health, where he was primarily responsible for mentoring and strengthening the capacities of diverse community-based organisations in Northern Nigeria, as well as supporting programme implementation, management, convening, learning, and knowledge sharing. He also served as the Executive Director of Total Health Empowerment and Development Initiative, implementing sexual and reproductive health and rights projects for LGBTIQ+ persons in Central Nigeria. His passion and drive is to continually advocate for an enabling society free from inequalities, patriarchy, stigma, discrimination, and other human rights violations using a feminist approach. Odi has a Bachelor’s in International Relations from Institut Superieur De Communication Et De Gestion, Benin.
