Action Center for City Development (Action for the City)

Context:

Development in Vietnam is uneven. One example is Soc Son district, located north of the city center of Hanoi and its poorest district. Most of the 10,000+ villagers of Thanh Xuan commune in Soc Son district are living at or just above the poverty line. Soc Son District is comprised of mostly farm lands, and one of two areas in Hanoi’s vicinity that produces organic vegetables. Hoi An is a city in central Vietnam promoting sustainable development and tourism, with a clear strategy on keeping farmland for agriculture, where organic agriculture could become a livelihood for farmers.

Organization:

Action Center for City Development (ACCD), established in 2006, is a small but leading organization doing innovative work with green living, public space development and restoration, and organic agriculture. It believes that every individual is responsible for the sustainable development of the society. ACCD has successfully implemented several projects that contribute to community development in helping improve quality of life for urban residents. Its vision is to make cities all over Vietnam greener and more livable. It has originally worked in Hanoi and has expanded its activities to Hoi An in 2014 to provide training and support to youth so that they can earn an income in the organic agriculture or eco-tourism sector.
