Global Reach: Past Grantees

The vast majority of Turkey’s 4.8 million illiterate citizens are female. Girls from more conservative regions or households face multiple barriers to getting an education (traditional roles, inaccessibility of schools and literacy centers, domestic responsibilities and chores, lack of self-confidence). The Mother Child Education Foundation (ACEV) has developed functional literacy programs that also provide the basic skills women and girls need to navigate daily life (reading bus schedules, writing letters etc.) and to know their rights (understanding the legal age of marriage, right to choose a husband, how to plan a family).
