EMpower is excited to announce the winners of the 2nd round of the Bright Promise Awards! This special initiative, funded by The Estee Lauder Companies Charitable Foundation, supports innovative approaches to help adolescent girls stay in and succeed in school. The awards focus on young girls ages 10-13. Applicants directly involve adolescent girls in the proposal development process, to propose and creatively design new strategies that support girls to overcome the barriers they face when accessing and completing secondary school.

We are excited to announce that the winning organizations are:

Urban Agriculture Network, Ghana will support the development of a social network and mentorship program to sensitize and inform girls about gender based violence and the available resources for victims of violence. The mentorship program will include participating schoolgirls and women in the community to support those who have experienced violence.  Additionally, the grant will support the development of a school wide Gender Based Violence Policy to create a reporting procedure and increase accountability.

NOYED-Ghana, Ghana will form an Empowerment Club for girls to address important topics such as sexual and reproductive health, Masculinity and Gender, Public Speaking, Hygiene and more. Additionally, this grant will facilitate training for teachers on how to better support adolescent girls, and work with mothers on small business development to increase their income levels and make them female education ambassadors in their community.

Role Baliwise, Indonesia will create a short Indonesian Language video to use in schools and villages to promote a better cultural understanding in their community, and work to facilitate a Sexual and Reproductive Health education program in schools. Role Baliwise will also train teachers and peer educators to ensure the sustainability of the program.

In addition to these awards, EMpower, with The Estee Lauder Companies Charitable Foundation, will provide follow-up funding for five high-achieving winners from last year’s Bright Promise Awards. Those partners are: SiKanda (Mexico), YP Foundation (India), Saath (India), YKB (Indonesia), and Gendes (Mexico).

Congratulations to the winning grantee partners!

Thank you to The Estee Lauder Companies Charitable Foundation for supporting innovations that will give younger adolescent girls the promise of a bright future.
