In February 2018, EMpower led a one-day Learning Journey on Fundraising in Cape Town, South Africa. The Learning Journey brought together representatives from 4 South African grantee partners with EMpower staff to share best practices, problem solve and collaborate. Through an interactive format, the goal was to increase the fundraising capacity of the participating organizations, while making fundraising accessible and fun!

The workshop was led by Neha Broota, EMpower Development Manager from the UK, with Theo Chronopoulos, EMpower Program Officer for Africa, and delved into topics that the participants had identified as areas for improvement, creating solutions specific to each organization. These topics included cultivating strong donor relationships, strategies to connect with corporate donors and ways to find long-term funders for organizational stability.

Participants gave very positive feedback, including:

“Thank you for creating a learning opportunity and challenging our thinking. You have opened our minds and inspired us!”

“I enjoyed the range of emotions you used to engage, it built a bridge between us… I enjoyed the idea of fundraising as a relational practice, it made it seem very accessible to everyone.”

Thank you to participating grantee partner organizations, United Through Sport, Sozo Foundation, Realistic, Ithemba Lethu Learning Centre and Mamelani Projects!
