Technology That Will Help Quicken the Pace of Employment in Argentina

Last month, Daniel Parnetti, EMpower’s Senior Programme Officer for Latin America, gave the opening remarks at the launch of our grantee partner EMPUJAR’s new online employment portal. This new platform, which was funded entirely through EMpower support, will more efficiently connect the young people who are graduates of EMPUJAR’s programme with employers. 

EMPUJAR, which translates to “businesses united for the advancement of youth in Argentina,” supports young people ages 17–24 at nine training centres located throughout Buenos Aires. It offers employability skills training and helps young people improve their self-awareness, adaptability, problem-solving communication, teamwork, and initiative. The programme also directly links young people with job opportunities. A full 70% of programme participants get a job or pursue higher education after graduating. 

The new portal will strengthen EMPUJAR’s job placement efforts. Programme participants and graduates are now able to access information and apply to jobs from one central place—from their own devices and at their own pace. The businesses that are part of EMPUJAR’s network can post jobs and recruit candidates directly, allowing for a more streamlined connection between labour demand and supply. This will significantly reduce the amount of time that EMPUJAR devotes to the more mechanical aspects of job facilitation; they’ll be able to focus on more strategic aspects, such as helping young people with job applications and mock interviews. 

Both employers and programme participants attended the launch event and spoke of the portal’s potential. Several local media outlets covered the event and featured stories of young people who have benefited from EMPUJAR’s important work. Read the articles below (in Spanish):
