EMpower, along with colleagues from Stars Foundation, FRIDA - The Young Feminist Fund, Mama Cash and The Global Fund for Children, organized a session entitled “Where Girls and Young Women Come into the Conversation: Reflecting on Trends and Funder Responses in Support of Youth Organizing and Transformative Leadership" at the Annual Human Rights Funders Network conference on July 10-13th in New York City. The conference's focus was on new strategies for supporting human rights in a climate of closing civic space and rising authoritarianism. Our interest was to share our experience as a founding strategic partner of the With and For Girls Collective. The Collective advances the value of engaging girls directly in decisions on allocating resources. In addition to awarding funds and increasing visibility of stellar girl-centered groups globally, the also Collective seeks to influence other funders to give flexible, multi-year funding to support girls’ opportunities and agencies, and to engage girls substantively in decision-making and representation.

Special shout-out to EMpower Executive Vice President, Cynthia Steele, as well as to all participants, for a stellar session full of energy and ideas!
