Looking for a Programmes Intern

Position Summary

The Programmes Intern will contribute to EMpower’s Programme Team Learning by spearheading efforts to compile grant results for 2021 and 2022, including associated indicators and metrics, in EMpower’s internal grants management system (Fluxx). They will gain experience using this software, which is widely used in the field of philanthropy. They will coordinate with the Global Grants Associate to ensure the integrity of data entry across regions for all impact data (qualitative and quantitative). Through this process, they will gain an in-depth understanding of EMpower’s work across 15 emerging market countries to enable marginalized young people to transform their lives and communities.

They will report to the Global Grants Associate.

Primary Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the intern include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Contribute to Programmes, Development, and Communications Team learning by updating grant results from grantee partner Progress and Final Reports within EMpower’s internal grants management system (Fluxx).
  • Ensure a high degree of data integrity for impact data (qualitative and quantitative) entered in Fluxx.
  • Support initial analyses of results from 2021 and 2022, pulling together key themes and trends for one or more geographic regions.
  • Support the identification and collection of data on top-level country statistics and key youth indicators in Fluxx that justify our investments under our three funding pillars (Inclusive Education, Safe & Healthy Lives, Economic Wellbeing).
  • Actively learn about international philanthropy, grantmaking processes, youth empowerment within emerging market countries, and other relevant topics.
  • Other ad hoc assignments may arise.

Knowledge, Skills, Values, and Education

The programme intern contributes to efforts to improve the lives and horizons of marginalised young people ages 10-24 in emerging market countries. The knowledge, skills, values, and abilities for this position are as follows.

  • Strong English and Spanish speaking and writing abilities required
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required
  • Interest in the fields of monitoring, learning and evaluation, youth development, emerging market countries, and/or effective philanthropy
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated cultural sensitivity/awareness.
  • Self-starter; highly organised; proven ability to work independently, anticipate, prioritise, and meet deadlines, with consistent attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of judgment and professionalism, as well as virtually with a team across multiple time zones
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications, comfortable learning new database technology and handling data
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; alignment with EMpower values.
  • Ability to work and reside in your primary location.

Compensation and Benefits

Working hours: The Intern will be required to work 20 hours per week; specific hours and days will be negotiated with the Global Grants Associates.

Compensation: Hourly rate for this position will be dependent on the location and experience of the candidate. This will be paid monthly based on submitted invoices.

Taxes: EMpower will not be responsible for making any tax deductions from your payment. Any tax commitment that arises with this engagement is the sole responsibility of the intern.

Benefits: This agreement does not entitle you to any benefits including, but not limited to, compensatory time, vacation, sick leave, personal days, maternity leave, jury duty, health dental or life insurance, or annuity contributions.

Work Environment

The individual will be working remotely and will require access to a laptop with Microsoft Office.

Work Location

Although the position has been advertised UK as the location, we are open for candidates in Europe and South and North America as well.
