EMpower is proud to be part of the 8th annual Citi e for education campaign occurring September 7 – October 30, 2020! EMpower has been a beneficiary of the Citi campaign since its inception in 2013. Thanks to the support of this partnership, EMpower has directly impacted more than 110,000 young people including 63,000 girls through our education-focused grants.
With a focus on addressing childhood illiteracy and improving education, Citi’s e for education campaign has raised more than $37.65 million USD for non-profit partners. The donations have touched more than 606,000 lives through educational programs across more than 70 countries. As a partner in this campaign, EMpower has been able to impact more lives and deepen our work in education across all the countries we work.
This year, this support is needed more than ever as more than 900 million youth’s education has been disrupted due to school closures and the pandemic. According to UNESCO, only an estimated 1/3 will return to school as families at the margins have few resources, access to services and greater economic burdens. We see that marginalized young people are profoundly affected in all the countries where EMpower works and organizations serving youth have been hard hit which makes this campaign all the more important.
For the first time this year, Citi e for education campaign has expanded their donations to include Foreign Exchange, Commodities, Global Spread Products, Futures and Equities and Rates with different rates being donated to support education.
