Position Summary

Reporting to Global People and Culture (P&C) Lead, the People and Culture Associate will be responsible for including but not limited to payroll, benefits administration, new hires, terminations, HRMS, performance management and other duties as assigned. They will provide support to EMpower global employees and will be critical in ensuring operational excellence. They will work with stakeholders from other departments like finance and operations to ensure processes are streamlined.

Primary Responsibilities

The duties that follow represent the primary responsibilities for this role. All employees are responsible for performing other duties as assigned. Primary responsibilities for this role include the following:

Payroll, Benefits & HR Operations

  • Coordinate with finance and global payroll teams to process Semi-Monthly/monthly Payroll through including, adding new hires, processing personnel changes, and calculating and entering benefits and other employee deductions.
  • Administer employee benefits globally including broker interface, updating HRMS, answering staff questions and annual policy renewal.
  • Work with P&C Lead and CFO to annually assess global benefits, including benchmarking, and build out new benefits when appropriate.

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

  • Support all functions of the global talent acquisition process, including sourcing and screening candidates, conducting reference checks, and creating offer letters and contracts.
  • Manage the onboarding processes with a focus on continuous improvement and staff experience.
  • Coordinate with external IT firm to set up new staff with hardware and software.
  • Ensure compliance, confidentiality, and document storage of all new hire paperwork.
  • Serve as lead for global consultancy contracts.

Database Management

  • Ownership of HR database management including adding new hires, performing terminations, updating salaries and other employee information. 
  • Responsible to maintain staff personnel files and recruiting data organized and up to date.
  • Preparing and organizing HR documents to support the employee life cycle.

Employee Engagement

  • Coordinate staff engagement activities / events.
  • Be first point of contact for all staff related queries.
  • Employee milestone tracking and 
  • Support Global People and Culture Lead in ad hoc projects.

Talent Management and Employee Engagement

  • Coordinate staff engagement, organizational surveys, and internal conversations to solicit feedback and develop solutions for organizational improvement.
  • Support P&C lead and leaders with annual Performance Review processes
  • Coordinate and regularly contribute global and regional staff meetings and events.
  • Be first point of contact for all staff for all People and Culture related queries.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position are as follows.

  • At least 3 year’s work experience in human resources, preferably in a nonprofit or global environment
  • Commitment to EMpower’s mission, interest in youth development and/or effective global philanthropy
  • Experience with Microsoft programs and HR/people systems and software
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with culturally diverse audiences and different personalities.
  • Able to work virtually with a team across multiple time zones (requiring some morning/evening calls), and demonstrated capacity for effective teamwork.
  • Ability to control and handle information that is confidential and time sensitive.
  • Ability to work with a small team in a dynamic environment.
  • Possess excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to build relationships with ease.

Education/Experience

University degree preferred.  However, putting into practice our values of being an organization that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive, and acknowledging that we all come from different lived experiences and backgrounds, we recognize relevant work experience over degrees and certifications for this position. 

Location

The Associate will report to the Global People and Culture Lead, who is based in India. They can be remote (or hybrid depending on finalist’s locale) but must be able to overlap with India working hours at least 50% of every day.
