Planning and Governance Officer
EMpower, a global philanthropic organization, is dedicated to improving the lives and horizons of marginalised young people ages 10-24 in 15 emerging market countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Russia and Turkey. Through grants and other support (learning exchanges, technical assistance, thought partnering etc.), EMpower partners with ~125 local organizations working to strengthen the education. and livelihoods of young people, and to build their resilience, self-confidence, and well-being. Empower has offices in Hong Kong, Delhi, Singapore, London and New York, as well as programme staff in Ghana, Istanbul, Mexico, Sierra Leone, and South Africa. EMpower is at an exciting time in our evolution and organisational strengthening. In the past few years we have grown in staff size and global footprint, with a deliberate focus on fostering a workplace that ensures diverse perspectives, opportunities for contribution, and belonging.
The Planning and Governance Officer will work with the President and CEO (called CEO hereafter), the Senior Leadership Team, and other staff so EMpower achieves organizational priorities and works effectively with the Boards of Directors and other key stakeholders. They also facilitate internal communications, acting as glue to ease communications and unite people towards common goals. This position will support the management of the organization’s growth, capacity, and resources. Our ideal candidate is someone who can think broadly and strategically about our work, excels at streamlining processes and problem-solving, and displays strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
The Planning and Governance Officer is highly computer savvy, including project management software, and effectively prioritizes tasks in a cross-functional environment. This position requires the ability to interact with a broad spectrum of people, and with colleagues and Board in other geographic locations. They are resourceful in building relationships across the larger EMpower ecosystem.
Planning and Organizational Systems Strengthening
The Officer will report to the President and CEO, who is based in New York. They can be remote (or hybrid depending on finalist’s locale) but must be able to overlap with NY working hours at least 50% of every day.
