Shifting the Narrative
Have you ever paused to think about the legacy you want to leave behind? Not just in terms of possessions or accomplishments, but also in the values you stood for and the impact you made. Legacy giving offers a powerful way to ensure your values live on and continue to make a difference in the world long after you're gone.
It's a way to make a significant contribution to the causes you care about most without impacting your current lifestyle or finances. By including a cause you care about—like EMpower—in your will, trust, or other financial plans, you can make a meaningful, lasting contribution without impacting your current lifestyle or finances.
This year, EMpower celebrates 25 years of empowering marginalised youth in emerging markets. For over two decades, we have invested in the potential of young people, partnering with local organisations to build a brighter future for generations to come. We've continuously operated with a long-term vision, recognising that sustainable change requires sustained commitment. That's why we take a unique approach to philanthropy, serving as an incubator and accelerator for our grantee partners. We provide patient capital and long-term, flexible funding, empowering these locally-led organisations to innovate, experiment, and scale their impact.
More than 1 million young lives have been positively impacted through our work, including more than 500,000 girls. And yet, the need remains urgent. The challenges young people face—from inequality to economic precarity and mental health—aren’t going away overnight. Legacy giving ensures that EMpower’s vital work continues—creating a ripple effect of opportunity, confidence and change that extends far beyond our lifetimes.
What is Legacy Giving?
Legacy giving, also known as planned giving, includes a charitable organisation like EMpower in your estate plans. Whether it’s a bequest in your will, naming EMpower as a beneficiary on a retirement account or life insurance policy, donating appreciated securities, or using your Donor Advised Fund (DAF), there are many ways to create a legacy that reflects your values and extends your philanthropic impact beyond your lifetime.
Why Legacy Giving Matters
Legacy giving is not just about supporting a particular organisation. It's about investing in the future you believe in. It's about modelling generosity; you’re your children, peers, and community. It’s about turning intention into enduring action.
At EMpower, we believe in the power of communities to lead change. Your legacy gift becomes part of that story, supporting youth in stepping into their power and building a better world.
A Personal Choice
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to legacy giving. It’s a deeply personal decision that reflects your passions and hopes for the future.
If you're considering legacy giving, I invite you to explore it—speak with your loved ones, your financial advisor, and with us.
As we celebrate EMpower’s 25th year, we’re also looking ahead—with hope, ambition, and the deep belief that the next 25 years can be even more impactful. Your legacy can help make that possible for a world where young people thrive and are in positions to build a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
