Evening with EMpower featuring grantee partner Jan Sahas in NYC

On Thursday, April 28, Next GEN Co-Chair Rekha Nair, Credit Suisse, hosted an Evening with EMpower at Upland in New York City with 30 guests, many of whom were new to EMpower. The evening featured Ashif Sheikh, Executive Director of grantee partner Jan Sahas in India, who spoke passionately about Jan Sahas’ work to end caste-based discrimination and the practice of manual scavenging (manual removal of human excreta) by giving adolescent girls and young women opportunities for education and dignified jobs.

Cynthia Steele, EMpower Executive Vice President & Global Head of Programs, also spoke briefly about EMpower’s work and context in India. There was a lot of interest in Jan Sahas and EMpower’s work after the inspiring program. Many thanks to Rekha for generously hosting and sponsoring the evening!
